MISSION

Mission Statement:
Gregory-Portland VFW Post 12232 has a multi-faceted mission focused on supporting veterans, servicemembers and their families. It includes advocating for veterans' rights, providing community service, promoting patriotism, and maintaining a strong national defense.

Current Description of Organization:
Gregory-Portland Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12232 is the successor to the previous post that was closed 20 years ago. The community of Gregory-Portland has welcomed the new post with open arms. Even though we do not have a facility to call home yet, we have had an impact on our veterans and the community. We have had successful benefits and fundraisers that we facilitate at facilities that cooperate with our post, but the events are on the facility's schedule.
We currently hold our meetings for our 100+ members at the Portland Community Center. This is great, of course, but we only meet for two hours a month.
Our goal for the benefits and fundraisers is to raise enough money to purchase a building to call it our home.
If and when we are able to own our own facility, we will not be constricted to two hours a month for our meetings. We will be able to meet anytime to share knowledge of any benefits or education that veterans may be entitled to. We will also be able to host benefits and fundraisers on our schedule with no restrictions. Not to mention, just to meet for the veteran camaraderie.
Our facility will be publicly available so we will be able to host events such as dances, scholarship ceremonies, dinners, and even host a Boy/Girl Scout Troop.
This new VFW Post is strong with members and has wonderful support. Our capabilities are somewhat restricted since we do not have our own facility at this time. Operation Home One will help us be stable, successful and unrestricted from the possibilities to be able to help our veterans and community.
